Jeffrey Yazwa is a talented educator who has been serving the needs
of students since 1995. He graduated from Penn State University in 1994
with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary and Kindergarten
Education. He also received his Master’s degree in Education Leadership
from the Northern Arizona University. He is a natural in the classroom,
and during his time teaching elementary school students, he was the most
requested teacher by the students’ parents. He enjoys his work
thoroughly, and would teach even if there were no monetary rewards.
Jeffrey Yazwa understands that being able to teach students is only half the battle; you have to be able to manage the classroom as well. Depending on who you’re teaching, this can be more difficult than it sounds. There’s a fine line between keeping the class engaged in a positive way, and letting things escalate beyond what’s appropriate for a classroom setting.
His first tip for teachers looking to have more of a handle on their classrooms, especially at the elementary level, is to provide incentives for being quiet and attentive. Children are more willing to give you their attention in the classroom if the teacher provides motivation.
In addition to providing motivation, you must also be an authoritative figure in your students’ eyes. This doesn’t necessarily mean being strict, but making sure that your presence as an authority figure is noticed. Balanced with fairness, this will have a major effect on your classroom management skills.
Jeffrey Yazwa has spent a lot of time in the classroom at all levels; he understands what it takes to be a successful teacher and manage his classroom.
